Shape/Light/Material embraced human scale while fostering an accessible design for all ages and abilities. Acting in counterpoint to the Medjuck Building’s inaccessible front entrance, the installation brought inclusive design to the forecourt.

750sqft of exhibition and no dump run.

Shape/Light/Material’s design prioritized reusable materials and structural systems, focusing on their preservation for future use. System scaffolding was a cost-efficient approach that allowed for expedited assembly and disassembly. The Material installation featured two used mainsails and was installed without making any lacerations to the sail’s canvas, ensuring the sail could be used for future voyages.

Visitors were invited to touch the sails and the tarps, contrasting their texture alongside their application. Each installation highlighted a distinct architectural element, alongside the mainsails, the tarps and lights of the installation will be used for future events. Shape/Light/Material’s approach to adaptive reuse, leveraged the qualities of the existing materials while ensuring their longevity beyond the event.
Adaptive Reuse

The inner courtyard provided space for conversation, where users could reflect on their relationship with the various architectural elements they encounter every day. Throughout the night, the installation became a playground, a space of reflection, and a space of gathering.
